Today we release the sixth episode of Untangling Climate Finance.

The guest for this episode is Dr. Lambert Schneider, the Research Coordinator for International Climate Policy at Oeko-Institut e.V.

Dr. Schneider started his career at the Oeko-Institut in 2000 as a Senior Researcher. While there, he joined the UNFCCC to work on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), specifically on the development and improvement of carbon credit methodologies. Eventually, he climbed the UNFCCC ranks to the CDM Executive Board.

Throughout his career, he has worked extensively on carbon markets. He has published numerous papers and reports on the CDM, voluntary carbon market (VCM), and the Paris Agreement Article 6 carbon markets (6.2 and 6.4). Some of his publications have focused on key issues regarding the double-counting of credits, host country over-selling Article 6.2 internationally traded mitigation outcomes (ITMOs), the impacts of the CDM on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the makeup of high-quality carbon credits, and much more.

During their discussion, Jay and Dr. Schneider cover various aspects of the complex carbon market sphere. Dr. Schneider demonstrates his extensive expertise in every response, sharing his concerns about certain market elements and his hopes for the future of the markets.

We hope you enjoy the conversation!
